I’ve left Boston plenty of times, none more memorable than any other, but then I left Boston on a private jet. My god, that’s something I’ll never forget. Perhaps it was the feeling of going to the other side of Boston Logan Airport, to the side not even the cabbies seemed to know, or maybe the fact that it was free, thanks to some clever travel hacking, but there’s nothing quite like the feeling of flying without anyone else, in a private jet at 40,000 feet…
Yep, A Free Jet, No Disappointing Ending…
Perhaps JetSmarter didn’t intend for their promotions to be so friendly, but we found promo codes for $500 and $1000 respectively per person, to use toward flight credit. Without joining or paying for a membership, we were able to use them for a completely free flight with no one else on it, minus the pilots of course…
Needless to say it was an incredible ride from Boston Logan (BOS) to Washington DC (IAD).

Like great conquerors and leaders of men, I felt like a boss hopping up those steps…
Laura did not have a tough time settling into our new digs for the next hour and a half. Space anyone?
Unfortunately, other than the two of us, all the other invitations were lost in the mail…

Wheels up, thumbs up, we’re on our way, rolling past all the commercial planes taxiing for take off.
Oh you bet, the chairs swivel, allowing us to play virtual bumper cars at 40,000 feet. It made for some nice views as well…
Basking in the light and luxury, if only for an hour or so…

It’s hard to put the feeling of space into perspective, but this is a fairly international symbol…
Of course, it’s really all about taking a private jet with the best company, which I had.
Looks a bit like Emirates First Class? The personal monitors were a kick…

And Then We Broke Out The Cards And Wine…
The whole no liquid on airplanes thing sucks. On private jets, not so much. We were able to bring our own bottles on the plane, open them at our leisure and create a mini party, way up in the air.
And if you’re going to get drunk (moderately buzzed) on a private jet, why not play cards on the swanky wood table?

I apologize for the faces, they were unavoidable. You only live once.
I was beyond buzzing in the excited, not inebriated way after our flight. I have to say, beyond the obvious reasons, the JetSmarter experience was extremely attractive. I was able to book the jet just using a messaging service in their app, with our awesome rep Matthew Sullivan, who kept us up to date, and made us feel important, even though we were nobodies, traveling for free. After landing, we taxied straight to the private terminal, where a car was waiting to drop us off out front. We were in Washington DC for lunch 25 minutes later, enjoying a day that will not be soon forgotten. The lunch cost a lot more than the jet, in fact, everything that day did.
