Capital One has been on the verge of points greatness since adding transfer partners to the Capital One Venture Miles program, but it was held back by a few details which either made things a little bit confusing, or just quite not robust enough to switch over to a Venture Card.

That’s pretty much all changed this week, as Capital One enters the points game chat with a new round of serious moves, including not one, but two airport lounges headed to US gateways, and more expected. Oh, and there’s the new airlines you can transfer your points to, and 1:1 transfer partners, creating true 2 miles per dollar earning.

Capital One Points & Miles Improvements

Putting aside the huge, 100,000 Point welcome bonus on the Capital One Venture Card for a brief second, there’s more reason to be intrigued about Capital One’s refreshed credit card rewards program.

First, there’s new airline transfer partners. Effective immediately, Capital One Venture Miles can be transferred to British Airways Avios, TAP Portugal and Turkish Airlines Miles & Smiles. Each loyalty program offer fantastic sweet spots for travelers looking to maximize their points and miles.

These new transfer partners allow you not only to use your miles for cash back via Capital One Purchase Eraser, but to turn them into actual airline miles, which can save even more money booking flights. With the new additions, here’s the complete list of how you can use your Capital One Venture Miles, by transferring them to airlines or hotels…

1 Venture Mile = 1 Airline Mile
2:1.5 Points & Miles Transfers

Going 1:1 with programs like AsiaMiles, which is one of the best programs to unlock luxury travel, is massive. The very same could be said fro Avianca LifeMiles or Etihad Guest, each of which offer phenomenal values, when points and miles are used well!

I did say briefly, so it’s probably time to bring that 100,000 Point welcome bonus back into the conversation, knowing that there’s literally 100,000 airline miles up for grabs with stellar partners, all from a $95 annual fee card with other great reasons to carry it.

Capital One Airport Lounges Coming Too!

Capital One hyped up their new Washington DC Dulles Airport Lounge, but little did we know they were playing it coy. Why? Because it’s not the only one, and actually a huge new space is coming to Dallas Ft. Worth (DFW), first, by gate D22!

The much anticipated Capital One Washington Dulles Lounge will open in 2022, but Capital One managed to get its Dallas Ft. Worth space ready for a grand opening to be expected this summer. The lounge will introduce this new element to the Capital One Venture and general brand experience, with substantial discounts for card members.

It’s also rumored the card issuer is looking into a new premium card, which could include complimentary access to these promising spaces in the near future. The space will be open to non-Capital One cardholders on a paid basis, as well.

This could be an opportune time to launch a new card, just as Amex is rumored to be raising annual fees. So, what’s Capital One planning on bringing to the upbeat airport lounge experience in the USA? Well, it seems there are some enticing and well thought out amenities for modern travel, including…

  • Shower Suites
  • High-Speed Wi-Fi
  • Grab-and-Go Food
  • Luggage Lockers
  • Dining Stations
  • Fully-Stocked Bars
  • Cycling and Yoga Rooms
  • Coffee Bars
  • Quiet Work Zones With Charge-Up Areas
  • Relaxation Rooms
  • Parent’s Rooms
  • Multi-Faith Rooms

Early renderings look very promising, and if the access rules can create just enough buzz without too many queues or struggles for space, there’s no reason these new airport lounges couldn’t become among the gold standard for domestic airports.

Huge Capital One Updates, Indeed!

These are momentous changes for Capital One, as it takes the value proposition of Capital One Venture miles from something once hardly ever mentioned inside serious travel circles to a near “must have” for value conscious travelers looking to make the most out of every purchase.

With the ability to earn 2 miles per dollar – yes, a real two miles per dollar – on every purchase, rather than just a list of bonus categories, there’s real reason to consider the Venture Card as an every day workhorse. If the card keeps adding limited time earning offers, like 5x points on UberEats, it may truly become ‘what’s in your wallet’.
