Every traveler knows that aside from the experience itself, there’s no greater joy in travel than re living the photos and videos taken along the way. The pictures are worth far more than a thousand words, they’re priceless. On a recent journey taking us more than the circumference on the earth, to more than six countries, in just 17 days, we decided to take it a step further, taking time lapse videos, which stitch together still photos taken over a series of hours. On our first night staying at the Hotel Icon in Hong Kong, we decided to set up the camera to capture sunset from the window in our room. What we hoped might become a nice memory turned into a captivating, fast moving display of ships, lights and sun.

If you go on an around the world trip, using miles, or great fares to do it in business class certainly helps. Wherever you sit, if you enjoy flying at all, it’s impossible not to marvel out the window as you rocket into the air, before gracefully drifting back to earth.
Sunset In Manarola, Cinque Terra, Italy…
The Cinque Terra is everything one hopes it to be. Unfortunately that includes an abundance of tourists, but unlike many areas, I’d say even with tourists considered, it’s worth every step. We rented a lovely place set in the top of the Manarola hillside and decided to record the sun setting on the rugged terrain. It was as beautiful as the local Tuscan wine!
Kings Cross (St. Pancras) London Eurostar Manic Movement…
Kings Cross is an iconic train station in London, which happens to be neighbored by one of my favorite hotels, the St. Pancras Renaissance. Some suites offer views directly over the station platform, and after requesting such a room, we perched a camera out the window (with the blinds closed!) to peep the scene in the station. It’s manic, it’s moving, it’s brilliant.
Sunset + Epic THUNDERSTORMS IN Bangkok…
For our 24 hour stop in Bangkok we lucked out with a beautiful hotel room overlooking the Chao Phraya River, the main waterway of Bangkok. So many boats! What was intended to be a simple sunset time lapse ended up capturing one of the strongest lightning storms we’ve ever been in. It certainly made for an interesting flight out later that night!
