Happy Birthday to Blue, Happy Birthday to Blue, it’s the program of Air France…and KLM too. For most of us, birthday’s become less exciting each year. For anyone with some Air France miles, American Express points, or Citi Thank You Points, the tenth birthday of Flying Blue, the KLM and Air France frequent flyer program is thrilling. Not so much candles, but lots of flights requiring half the usual amount of miles, just 25,000 round trip from the US to Europe and vice versa!

The Dates

You’ll need to book by December 10th and travel between January 15th and March 15th. Nice!

Booking

This is very easy. If you have Air France/KLM miles you’ll just need to login, select one of these city pairs during the dates and book from this link after clicking “Ten Year Promo Awards”. If you don’t yet have any miles, transfer your Amex, or Citi points into Flying Blue online and then read the first sentence again!

This is a great way to turn a modest amount of miles into what could amount to a very expensive ticket. I care about cents per mile and at just 25,000 miles round trip, assuming you’d pay around $1000 for economy, you’re getting up to four cents per mile or more if the ticket is fetching more. This is when flying economy can make perfect sense. Enjoy!
