With everything going on in the world, the last thing anyone should worry about is whether their hard earned travel perks will disappear while they’re still on timeout from travel. I mean, that would be terrible. Accordingly, Hilton Honors is making sure that doesn’t happen to points collectors or those holding Gold or Diamond status in the Hilton loyalty program. Here’s the juicy details…

Hilton Freezing Elite Status

Got Hilton Silver, Gold or Diamond right now? You’ve now got it until March, 2022. Hilton will freeze all expirations until the end of the first quarter of 2022, giving you over a year to earn it through to 2023, or 2024. On that note, qualification thresholds to earn status, or prolong your perks will be dropped by 50%.

Hilton Reduces Elite Status Thresholds

Hilton is reducing the number of nights or stays you’ll need to complete to keep, or earn elite status within the Hilton Honors program for 2021. Here’s how it breaks down…

Reducing Status Qualification Requirements by 50 percent across all tiers, including stays, nights and Base Points in 2021, to allow members to achieve status in half the time. For example, this means to earn Gold status, a member must complete 20 nights, 10 stays or 37,500 Points instead of 40 nights, 20 stays or 75,000 points. And, as previously announced, all 2020 nights will automatically roll over to the 2021 calendar year to help Hilton Honors members upgrade their tier status even faster.

Don’t forget, all 2020 nights rollover into 2021, so any nights this year count towards these milestones.

For anyone who took part, or plans to take part in the Hilton elite status challenge, with Diamond attainable in a record time, this is absolutely incredible news, which will see years of benefits.

Additionally, Diamond members can gift status to someone else, with half the usual nights this year. A Diamond staying 30 nights in 2021 will earn complimentary Gold status to gift to someone, and a Diamond staying 60 nights can gift Diamond!

Hilton Points Won’t Expire In 2021

So many points, so hard to spend them. For people giving travel a break right now, that’s probably the feeling. Responding to that unnecessary stress, Hilton is pausing the expiration of all points until December 31st, 2021.

As you undoubtedly know, all you need to do to stop points from expiring is to earn another point. This can be done via transferring points to Hilton from a credit card program, staying in a hotel, or buying points online.

Best Offer: 100% Bonus Buying Points

Hilton is keeping their 100% bonus on points purchases alive, and has doubled the amount you’re able to buy. This allows you to unlock aspirational properties, like a Conrad Bora Bora, or Waldorf Maldives for a fraction of the cash rate. You can peep a few of the best ways to buy Hilton points and save on luxury stays, here, and head here to Buy Hilton Points.

These are super changes from Hilton which give travelers one less thing to worry about, and lots of inspiration time to plan how to maximize their perks and points. Bring on the next program to match this generous extension.

Oh, and don’t forget to register for 2X Points and Nights! In case you hadn’t figured it out yet, with the double night credit, you only need to stay 15 nights this year to earn Diamond!

  1. Well this helps soften the blow of not being able to do the status match due to being a gold member. I am currently on 22 days (11 x double up). So just 4 (double ups) more days till diamond!?

  2. As a Diamond thru Amex Aspire card, we were told those points never EXPIRE and Diamond status is the status quo during my lifetime. I have 1,330,000 points. How am I affected if at all?

    1. Since you receive the benefits automatically as long as you have the card, not much. But, if you were to actually stay some nights, you’d be able to earn Gold or Diamond to gift much faster.
