All along the west coast of the USA, business class fares to Asia are dropping by the minute. Exciting airlines from the east are bringing new waves of competition, and today’s deal is an absolutely perfect example. Hainan is a very well regarded Chinese airline with close links to beloved US based Alaska Airlines and right now, there are $1489 round trip deals to China. Not only can you enjoy a flat bed for the 15+ hour journey, you can earn a boat load of Alaska MileagePlan or Etihad Guest miles too.

Hainan flies a Boeing 787 Dreamliner between the USA and China. which offers one of the most pleasurable rides in the sky thanks to jet lag reducing technology like intelligent mood lighting, noise reduction and improved cabin pressure. With just one connection to Shanghai, these flights really couldn’t be any better, especially for the price – which is lower than premium economy – on most airlines.

Most of these flights are on Hainan’s newest 787’s which feature reverse herringbone, 1-2-1 layout seats. The seat is similar to what you’d find on Qatar Airways pre-Qsuite A350’s and 787’s and is a great way to fly.

As mentioned, these fares credit at 200% to the Alaska MileagePlan program, and 125% into Etihad Guest, another great program so it’s a great way to earn a boatload of miles while enjoy boatloads of comfort.

According to GCMap.com, a great resource for figuring out actual flight distances, the journeyLos Angeles to Xi’An connecting onto Shanghai covers 7,600 miles each way, for a total of just over 15,000 miles flown round trip. At 200% earning, that’d net over 30,000 Alaska miles, more than half way to a business class ticket, or half way to a first class ticket!

The Dates You Can Travel

These deals are totally wide open for travel from Los Angeles to Shanghai in September and October, and then still have great availability in November and December. Sadly, that’s where the trail ends. These deals are currently not available for 2020.

As you may have noticed from the screenshots above, these deals appear directly with Hainan for $1609, which is still incredibly low – but you can do over $100 better. These same fares can be found in Skyscanner for $1489, which is a truly screaming deal. Here’s a link to book these on Skyscanner.

Do note: you’ll need a China visa to take advantage of these deals. That process is much easier now than it once was, and prices have come down nicely too. Just don’t plan to travel tomorrow if you don’t have one, since it will inevitably require more time than that to get it processed. Here’s some relevant info on obtaining one!

Enjoy the trip!
