The mantra of this blog is to bring elevated travel at minimal expense. Short of actually flying first class, nothing elevates a trip like spending that dreaded airport wait time in a lounge. Whether it’s the free cocktails, wifi, showers or just a quiet place to sit, lounges make travel better. For most travelers, a yearly lounge membership or travel centric credit card with a high annual fee cannot be justified. Enter Lounge Buddy, an app which hooks users up with one off access to lounges in their current airport without the hassle or guesswork.

Lounge Buddy acts as your airport guru. Using your location and saved information, the app informs you which lounges in your airport are available for paid entry, what you can expect when you get inside and what you need to show to be whisked to peace and quiet. Travelers can plan ahead and book available lounges through the app in advance, or risk it and take advantage of discount “last minute” pricing, when available. The app seems to use smart demand technology to negotiate lower fees than the standard “walk up” price, plus no one likes the chance of being turned away. With flight delays up, this app seems poised to bring weary travelers in from the cold.

Airline loyalty is down, credit card points are up. For many, it’s no longer worth sticking to one airline for diminishing benefits. As fliers become free agents it is harder to guarantee lounge access across different alliances. In this regard, Lounge Buddy benefits the most frequent of travelers in harmony with the occasional leisure traveler. It doesn’t matter what airline you are flying. No membership fees, no guest fees, no elite requirements, just one off clean cut access to the good stuff. As always, I am here to advocate elevated travel without the expense. As airlines move to cut benefits, it’s nice to see a company bringing elite benefits to all, even for a fee.
