Sitting in an airport terminal can feel like everything from a glass cage to an airless vacuum, all complete with limited views. With such exciting things happening outside, wouldn’t it be nice to breath some fresh air and enjoy uninhibited views of stunning jets landing, taking off and taxiing?
San Francisco International Airport (SFO) has just opened an outdoor observation deck for all, bringing aviation geek heaven to the airport’s international terminal. There’s another one coming too…
San Francisco Intl Airport Observation Deck
If you’re flying out of the San Francisco Airport International Terminal, make your way to area G, to discover outdoor #avgeek heaven, assuming that famous San Francisco fog and rain haven’t set in. The airport now offers a public observation area with sculptures, loungers and chairs from local artists where you can take in the action above and below.
San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is a jumbo jet heaven, with wide body jets landing and taking off from the far reaches of the globe at all times of day. The new observation deck is open from 7:00AM to 11:30PM, creating easily the best way to pass time before a flight.
To make the experience inclusive, food and drinks are allowed up on the deck, but smoking is not.
For a plane spotter, it just doesn’t get much better. For any passenger, its certainly a more relaxing environment than the hustle of what’s below. You’re truly out in the open air, able to enjoy the sounds smells and sights of aviation at one of the worlds major airports, and the 10 foot glass panels make sure the wind whipping off the coast – or the jet wash – doesn’t re-style your hair.
San Francisco International has pledged $500m to improve airport facilities, including adding traveler favorite power ports at more seats. In addition to this air side terrace in the international terminal, the airport is looking into adding a second location in terminal 2. It can’t come soon enough!
