The simpler things in life are sometimes the best…
Sometimes it’s not the fine print that saves you money, but the fantastic offers. American Express revolutionized credit card spending in the last few years by introducing “Amex Offers”, where cardmembers are targeted for special discounts, savings or bonus points at airlines, hotels, online shops and restaurants worldwide- even real stores too. Paying attention may just be the best way to save money this holiday season.
The Offers
The idea is very simple: give cardholders a bigger reason to shop, by offering them exclusive discounts. Offers vary from $100 off a $300 purchase, to 25,000 bonus points for spending $1000 with an airline, or $25 off a $100 dinner. They vary by country, by cardmember and by card but they are ALWAYS worth checking out. Here’s a US and UK link to the offer pages. Here’s a great post highlighting many of the best current US offers as well.
Registration Is A Must
A sure fire way to do a face palm, is to spend money to complete an Amex Offer, only to find out you forgot to register. Simply click on any offer and click “register” to ensure that your card is ready to go- and be sure to use the registered card. These offers can save $100’s all year, but there’s no better time during the holidays, when merchants get competitive with their offers.
The Time Of Year
Amex Offers are exciting all year round, but this is when the competition heats up. Much like black Friday sales, merchants are desperate to earn your holiday cash- so never make a purchase at this time of year without checking Amex Offers first. And don’t forget, you can earn thousands of airline miles from your online shopping too.
I know this is the wrong place, but I have a question. Let’s say I currently have the Citi AA Plat and have had it for more than 2 years and it’s been that long since I got the sign-up bonus.
Can I apply for that same card again without closing the card and get the bonus? Or do I actually have to close it, wait two years, and then apply again?
Thanks in advance!
