Let’s start off with: this doesn’t sound real or possible, but somehow it is. Arguably the best value in all of air travel comes in the form of the Southwest Airlines Companion Pass, a perk where someone can have a companion fly with them for free all year, even when the person who earned the pass uses points to book their flight. Yep, two people can literally fly for free over and over again all around the US, Caribbean and Mexico and we’ll show you how to get it…
The Southwest Companion Pass Details And Perks…
The Southwest Companion Pass happens when a person with a Southwest Rapid Rewards frequent flyer account earns 110,000 points in a year. Once a person has 110,000 points in their free frequent flyer account they’ll be able to appoint someone to fly with them for free on any Southwest flight, just paying the roughly $5 in security fees for a flight. Craziest of all, the companion can fly for free even when the member uses miles for their own free flight! No one pays!
If you want to go the credit card route, you can also earn the Companion Pass by opening up a Southwest Rapid Rewards personal + business Credit Card and spending about 10k in a year.
And You Can STILL Use The 110,000 Points Too…
Already amazed? It gets better. Not only do you get to have someone tag along on all your adventures, you also still get to use the points, which are worth roughly $1700 in free travel. Just earning the 110,000 points triggers the companion pass, so once you have it you can still use all those points to travel for free. And yes, of course your companion comes along for no extra miles every time. Incredible.
Marriott Or SPG Points Can Get You The Pass For Free AND SEVEN Nights In A Hotel…
Marriott and Starwood points are super valuable, especially now that both can be transferred to each other at a 3:1 rate from Starwood to Marriott. Marriott offers really interesting and lucrative “vacation packages”, where for a certain amount of Marriott points you can book seven nights in a hotel and get airline miles of your choice to get you there. If you transfer 270,000 Marriott points to a Southwest Air + Hotel package you’ll get seven nights in any Marriott or Ritz up to Category Five (nice hotels) AND you’ll get 120,000 Southwest points. You guessed it, more than enough for a companion pass and some free flights.
This opportunity expires forever on March 31st 2017. All transfers must be completed by this date. Be sure to leave yourself enough time for the points to transfer (at least a few days).
So You Can Actually Get 120,000 Southwest Miles And Seven Nights In A Hotel For 90,000 Starwood Points…
See? That Marriott to Starwood opportunity has its benefits! If you’re short of Marriott Points or have a bunch of SPG points and would love to turn them into a year of 2 for 1 or 2 for none flights with Southwest and a nice vacation in a Marriott or Ritz Hotel for seven nights you’e in business. Simply transfer your SPG points over to Marriott (you can always transfer them back) and then book a Southwest Flight + Hotel package…
