There’s a reason the word points is out ranking frequent flyer miles. You really just don’t need to be a frequent flyer to benefit massively from airline loyalty programs and travel better from the points you earn.
An endless array of earning options exists on the ground too, from wine clubs to now — Uber rides. While plenty of airline and mobility options exist in the US, the UK had long been overlooked, but with a brand new partnership, that’s all changed.
Starting later this month, British Airways Executive Club members (free to join) can earn Avios whenever they ride with Uber. It’s yet another way to top off accounts and work towards trip goals, just from every day activities.
Earning Avios With Uber
Starting soon, likely by the end of the month, you’ll be able to link your Uber account with your British Airways Executive Club account and earn Avios on all the rides you takee.
Could the earning rate be better? Yeah, it definitely could. Members will earn 1 Avios per £1 spent which probably won’t unlock many first class flights on their own, but will absolutely help propel people closer to goals. Maybe it’ll improve?
There’s nothing within the world of points more frustrating than being just a few thousand short, and it’s entirely possible for many travelers to earn a few thousand a year, depending on travel patterns. That’s where this is great, like all other new earn partner opportunities.
Linking BA Avios Accounts With Uber
Once the partnership is all setup and the tech is live, linking “should” be really easy. To enroll and start earning, you’ll first need to open the Uber app.
Once the Uber app is open, you simply navigate as follows…
- Open the app, and click “account” at the bottom of the app.
- Select “settings”, toward the middle of the screen.
- By the end of the month, the Avios partnership should be there.
- Login, while in the Uber app, to your BA Avios account and link them.
- Once selected as your earning choice, you’ll earn Avios on every Uber ride.
Never Earn Nothing!
Looked at another way — you earned nothing when riding with Uber before, and now you can earn something. That’s great. And all it takes is a few key strokes once, to link the accounts. Uber and Avios promise an option to link accounts in the weeks to come.
I’ll instantly be enrolling in this once available, thanks in part to how much time I end up in Ubers, outside of my control. I value Avios over Marriott Bonvoy Points, so will be glad to earn a currency I derive more regular value from, just for tapping “link” and living my life.
The relationship went live sometime in the last 2 hours.
No joy connecting accounts – tried with two phones & accounts. Then tried logging in to the BA app… unable to login so decided to leave it for a few hours.
Just tried again now… and success. 🎉 Looking forward to receiving my 250 Avios. 😎
I have my Marriott account linked to British Air and I see that Uber will soon be available for the same. How do I find out other opportunities like this. I do the majority of my travel on US airlines but occasionally on international.
